چکیده

Background: Antenatal renal pelvis dilatation (RPD) is the most common congenital anomaly detected on antenatal ul-trasound. The present study was planned to determine characteristics and outcome of neonates with pel-vis dilatation. Patients Methods: A prospective, observational, non-interventional conducted in Fatima Memorial Hospital over a period 12 months from April 2021 March 2022. This included 130 kidneys 91 >28 weeks gestation antenatally diagnosed isolated Postnatal ultrasound performed at 24-72 hours life. Cases those resolved spontaneously were labelled as Physiological RPD (Transient RPD) , while all others Pathological (Persistent RPD).Descriptive statistics tests significance calculated for variables. Univariate analysis compare possible risk factors postnatal transient vs. persistent any grade. Correla-tion coefficients between pathological RPD. Results: Every 4th neonate had (p<0.05). Only 5% showed se-vere variety Statistically significant associated maternal anemia, oligohydramnios, diabetes mellitus, age < 37 weeks, birth weight <3 kg, antibiotics administration, admission in-tensive care unit, urinary tract infections, oliguria, high BUN creatinine, posterior urethral valve, vesicoureteral reflux, neurogenic bladder other malformations (P<0.05). Persistent strong positive direct correlation severity RPD, moderate seen serum PUV, PUJ. Hence will help us formulating management follow up plan our newborns Conclusion: About 71% undergo spontaneous resolution. Severe persisted neonatal life has dilata-tion. Keywords: Ultrasonography, Renal Pelvis Dilatation (RPD), Antenatal, Postnatal, PUJ, Urinary malformation, kidney.

Prospective study of outcome in antenatally diagnosed renal pelvis dilatation.

AIMS To ascertain the outcome associated with antenatal renal pelvis dilatation; to recommend guidelines for postnatal investigation and determine an upper limit of normal for the anterioposterior dimensions of the fetal renal pelvis. METHODS Infants whose antenatal ultrasound scan showed a fetal renal pelvis of 5 mm or greater were investigated using postnatal renal tract ultrasound and a mi...

Renal scintigraphy in infants with antenatally diagnosed renal pelvis dilatation.

BACKGROUND/AIM Ureteropelvic junction obstruction and vesicoureteral reflux are the most frequent entities identified on the basis of antenatal hydronephrosis. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence and pattern of abnormal renal scintigraphy findings in postnatal investigation of children with antenatal hydronephrosis. METHODS Twenty-four infants (19 boys and five girls) present...

Mild fetal renal pelvis dilatation: much ado about nothing?

BACKGROUND Renal pelvis dilatation (RPD) occurs in 1% of fetuses. Severe RPD (>15 mm) is frequently associated with urinary tract pathology. For the majority with mild (5 to 9 mm) to moderate (10 to 15 mm) RPD, however, there is uncertainty about the risk of abnormalities and how much postnatal investigation is required. STUDY DESIGN Systematic review of cohort studies of fetuses with RPD < o...

The type and frequency of fetal renal disorders and management of renal pelvis dilatation.

OBJECTIVE This study describes the frequency of sonographically detected fetal renal disorders, the correlation of fetal renal pelvis dilatation (RPD) with the need for postnatal surgery, and proposed management of RPD. METHODS The study population consisted of 342 fetuses with prospectively identified isolated renal abnormalities and known follow-up. Fetuses with RPD were considered separate...

A case report of a bifid ureter and renal pelvis

Background: Double ureter is one of the anomaly of urethra that appears complete or incomplete. Incomplete duplication of ureter is known as bifid ureter, this kind of anomaly may be formed due to some error or disturbance in development of the ureteric bud which arises from the mesonephric duct around the 5th week. The ureteric bud grows and penetrates in to the metanephric tissue at about32co...
